Default blanket ban

India's performance in the World Cup has left many disappointed. But a village in Haryana has gone a step further and imposed a blanket ban on cricket.

What does `blanket ban' mean in this context?

Could you explain it please?

Default Re: blanket ban

In this case, "blanket" means overall, something that covers or applies to a large amount, class or group of things.

For example, a blanket purchase order could be used to buy office supplies for the entire year, rather than issuing separate POs for each purchase.
