Default Club, the club, clubs

If I say "My favorite hangout is the club," am I referring to a specific club, or clubs in general? If I mean clubs in general, should I say "My favorite hangout is clubs"?

You know what I mean by clubs, right? pubs with music and dance, is how I know.

And, would it be odd to say "The place I like the most (best?) is the club"?

Thanks for your time.

'The club' = specific club. I'd use 'a club' for general. I would assume that the person meant a night club, not a society or association.
