Default Tense Usage
In ODIs, opening is an easier option. I felt that the team would benefit immensely if Sachin came in at number 4 for he can milk the bowling


do you find any 'tense' misfit in the above sentence...?

Yes, 'feel' would be better. But when there are conditionals in the air, tenses often slip to make the syntax of the conditional easier. (I'm not saying I condone it, but it happens.)
