some type of etc.
Dear teachers,
I have four questions to ask:
No.1
As my exams are coming next week, I'll take advantage of the weekend to ________ on some reading.
a. catch up b. clear up c. make up d. pick up
The key is 'b' but I can't find the phrase 'pick up on' in my dictionary. However, I can find 'catch up on' , which mean 'compensate' in my dictionary. So I think 'a' is correct. Is that right?
No.2
Because fuel supplies are finite and many people are wasteful, we will have to install ________ solar heating device in our home.
a. some type of b. some type of a
The key is 'a'.
There is a similar sentence:
___________ ghost exists in the world.
a. No such thing as a b. No such thing as
The key is 'a'.
The only differences between the two is the indefinite article 'a'. Could you please explain which is correct?
No.3
I went there in 1984, and that was the only occasion when I _____ the journey in exactly two days.
a. must take b. was able to make
c. must have made d. could make
The key is 'a'. But I think it should be 'b'. 'b' means a person managed to do something in the past. Is that right?
No.4
What's the chance of ___________ a general election this year?
a. there being b. there to be
The key is 'a'. However, in the same book there is another sentence:
It was unusual for there ________ so few students in the classroom.
a. to be c. being
The key is 'a'.
Does it mean after 'of' we should use 'there being' but after 'for' we should use 'there to be'?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you in advance.

The key is 'a'. correct

a. No such thing as a b. No such thing as
The key is 'a'.
The only differences between the two is the indefinite article 'a'. Could you please explain which is correct? The solar heating device is undefined - some kind of device; the ghost is specific - a ghost. In this second sentence, I would probably write "no such thing as ghosts"
