Is the following sentence correct?
Such a global world and economy necessitates regulation on a worldwide level.
or should it be:
Such a global world and economy necessitate regulation on a worldwide level. (thus without the 's' in necessitates??)

It really depends on whether you see the world and economy as a linked entity,in which case you could use the singular, or two separate things. I'd probably use the singular as they are intertwined in this context.![]()
I agree with TDOL. In certain cases, a compound subject can be viewed as a single entity. It would not be wrong to use the plural verb here, however. :wink:Originally Posted by carter

Yes, and I agreed with your preference. :DOriginally Posted by tdol
Say global economy or world economy, and pare the unnecessary words.Originally Posted by carter

Good idea. How about 'globalised' to get the idea of the change?
(PS- Nice Easter, Ron?)
I don't think I would use globalised except possibly as a verb. I do think global economy is preferable to world economy. (It is, at any rate, used more often, I think.)Originally Posted by tdol

In BE, we used 'globalised' as an adjective.![]()
