about "flourish"

I feel a bit puzzled about one meaning of the word flourish.
In my lexicon book, three meanings of it had been listed.
1. describing the plant which grows well
2. prosperous
3. waving hand to sb. else

The third meaning doesn't seem to be connected with the other two directly or indirectly. Could you explaint to me why?

It isn't really. I suppose you could argue that a it is used for an extravagent gesture rather than a small one.

I wouldn't use "flourish" to refer to waving one's hand. It needs to be something more dramatic. It could apply to waving a flag, for example. :wink:
