Can't 1 mean:
a-The first time I ever saw him was in 1992 and at that time he was depressed.
and:
b-In 1992 I saw him on a few occasions (maybe I had seen him before 1992) and on the second occasion, he was depressed. | 1. You saw him twice in 1992. He was depressed at the time of the second encounter.
2. You saw him twice and he was depressed at the time of the second encounter. It is likely that the first encounter occurred prior to 1992. :wink: |
