a male/female friend
Please, how can i shortly say "a friend" to differentiate gender of the person?
E.g. "I met my friend." and i want to say that the friend was a girl.
(I don't mean boy/girlfriend.)
Thank you,
F.

I can't think of a single word that does it. In speech, when I want to distinguish, I say "a friend - he/she verb...", or use some other other grammatical marker for gender (like a possessive pronoun, or a suffix like -er/-ress).

Come to think of it, I have always used 'a male friend of mine'.
