Question Using question marks or explanation with quotes

hi,
I forget, when you quote someone thinking, where do you put the emphasis marks to describe what their mood is?

For example:

Mark saw a printer on sale and thought, “what a great idea, I can use this to print my flyers”!

Or should it be

Mark saw a printer on sale and thought, “what a great idea, I can use this to print my flyers!”

Inside - he's thinking the exclamation, and what he's thinking all goes in quotes.
