Yes, but since it is more convenient to use a "general-purpose" table (say, the kitchen one), there are things like mats that you can roll (or fold) and carry over at your buddy's place, so as to play on felt, even if it's not a real gaming table. How is the stuff-you-can-roll called?

I suggest roll-up mat used as a travel accessory . I noticed that mat is the word used for the French tapis in the field of gambling a small size lay-out . which differs from the huge gambling table (tapis vert)

As a matter of fact , ths felt card table cover is close to the object you describe. It must be the best translation even though the French 'tapis' I have in mind is slightly different in shape and use. This little mat is commonly rolled-up and has no elastic bands. Thus, this difference must have a cultural cause.
