Which sentence is true ?
Please tell me which is true in the flowing sentences, and why?
“When he became famous, he had people stopping him in the street and asking for his autograph.”
“When he became famous, he had people stopping him in the street and asked for his autograph.”

The first is the one I'd use because 'asking' is controlled by 'he had'.

In this sentence, both "stopping" and "asking" are present participles that introduce participial phrases, which modify "people". The past participle version, "asked" doesn't fit in that pattern.
