Default please rephrase the sentence

I sat on my suitcase as the Swiss train carried me to a meeting I'd dreamed of for two decades.

Though I know every word meaning in the above sentence, I can't grasp the sentence as a whole.

Could you rephrase it so that I can understand?

Hi

The person is in a moving train. He/she is sitting on a suitcase. He/she is on his/her way to a meeting. The meeting is important, and he/she has been waiting for it for two decades, i.e. 20 years.

Why is she/he sitting on a suitcase?

Does it mean (the train was housefull and she couldn't get place to sit on)?

Yes, I think that's a fair assumption.

He could also be sitting on his suitcase to make sure nobody steals it. This would be quite possible if he's going to a very important meeting. Maybe there's something equally important in the suitcase.

Hard to say with no context.

AFAK, "sitting on a suitcase" isn't an idiom or expression.
