Unhappy Confusing words

Hi,

I am confused with these words. Could you please help me?

1) Words is the official journal/magazine of the Linguistic Association. ( Journal or magazine ? I can't see the difference.)

2) Pauline's play has been playing/acting/producing/running in the west End for the past year (I think it's producing, but is that correct?)

3) The star of the circus was a/an acting/performing/playing/dramatic seal, which did incredible tricks. ( an acting seal?)

4) Nigel Kennedy, the known/recognised/defamed/celebrated violinist, will perform at the concert. ( celebrated violinist?)

Thank you very much.

Hmm... "known" sounds a bit more awkward than the other terms...
