    Default on or for

When she walked into the lift, she pressed the button for / on the ninth floor.Which verb should I use? The teacher says it should be 'on', but I would say it should be 'for'.

The most important rule is that they should / may bring some warm and waterproof clothes as suggested, and wear a life jacket when sailing.

Which verb in bold should be used? Are there any errors in the sentence?

    Thanks in advance.

    Default correct preposition

When she walked into the lift, she pressed the button for / on the ninth floor. Which verb should I use? The teacher says it should be 'on', but I would say 'for' should be used.

    Thanks.

I'd use "for" in that context. To me, if she pressed the button on the ninth floor, she'd have to be on the ninth floor.

If you press the button "on" the ninth floor, then the lift is stopped at the ninth floor.

Presumably she walks into the lift on the ground floor so she needs to press the button "for" the ninth floor.

Kohyoongliat, please try not to post the same question twice.

As stated earlier, I accidentally posted in the wrong section, and have since reposted. However, the reply came before I could delete the two post.

    My sincere apologies.
