Post Good working practice

What does the expression 'good working practice' mean, eg in the sentence 'However, it is common for good working practices to be based on historical or political considerations rather than the current needs of the business of best practice" (I'm a native Dutch speaker by the way).

Kind regards,

Christ

Default Re: Good working practice

Hello, Christ, welcome to Using English!

"Good working practices" are the standard, sensible things you do, when you do a particular job (with regard to health & safety, efficiency, legality, etc).

Thus if you are an electrician, it's a good working practice to switch off the power at the mains and unplug the appliance before you attempt to repair it.

And if you're a doctor, it's good working practice to wash your hands before you examine the next patient.

All the best,

MrP
