Default pointed, attic

She said, `Where did you find it?'

`In my house.' He pointed without looking, because he was busy reading. `In the attic.'

Please explain the highlighted words.

I found, from the dictionary, attic = the space or room at the top of a building, under the roof, often used for storing things:
(from Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary)

But, I think, this meaning is not appropriate in my sentence.

Please help me.

Taken from here: point - definition of point by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.
v. point·ed, point·ing, points
v.tr. 3. To indicate the position or direction of: pointed out the oldest buildings on the skyline.

As for the attic, he probably wanted to explain that he had found it there, i.e. in the space or room at the top of a building, under the roof, often used for storing things.

Hope this helps

It seems to me perfectly appropriate. Whatever he was reading (a book?) had been stored in the attic. He was so interested that he didn't turn away to answer. He just pointed upwards [made an indicating gesture with his hand, extending the index finger {the one next to his thumb} to the storage area at the top of the house].
