Perhaps I am biased as I am an American and therefore a rhotic speaker, but I don't think that pronouncing "r" sounds harsh or unprofessional.
Hello, Professors and my friends-
From past few days i have been searching the appropriate answer for my problem with 'R' (Mentioned below) but in the end i was not able to get a suitable answer from any one
My problem is- As i am an indian, we indian's prefer queens language which i think is almost similar to the British accent-
I am a strict follower of British accent---
whenever i tend to communicate i skip the 'R' from sentences (my 'r' is not very prominent)
for example-
1) There are arrogant people
and i spell it as- dhea aa arrogant people (here i skipped 'r' from 'there' & 'are')
2) they shall pay for it
and i spell it as- dhey shall pay fo it. (here i have not pronounced 'r' in 'for')
but i give special attention to spell 'r' in words like 'prominent'/ 'promiscuous ' in such word i pronounce 'r'.
and whenever i try to pronounce 'r' it comes out so rhotic and in a harsh manner that in the end it does not sound professional.
i would like to know whether it is acceptable speaking as per the above given sentences- especially in service industry (Because i work in one)?
is it acceptable world wide? or will people make a fool out of me when i will tend to speak in such manner?
Please assist me on the same- Teachers and students
Your's affectionately,

In sentence ''they shall pay for it'', R in FOR has to be pronounced, or al least more stressed than in ''There are arrogant people'' (THERE, ARE).
Don't be discouraged just beacuse you aren't able to pronounce R as good as you want. You have to practice!!!
Try to ''roll'' your tongue and find the most suitable position to pronounce it.
I'm not sure how this problem differs from the one you raised in http://www.usingenglish.com/forum/as...problem-r.html.
