    Default tucked beneath his arm

"Maybe," he said nonchalantly. He walked away whistling, the dusty old book tucked beneath his arm.

Could you explain/give the posture of `hiding books in someone arm'?

Take a book and put it between your arm and your body, close to the shoulder. You have now tucked a book under your arm.
