Hi. I would like to know if "to believe in" and "to believe" have different meanings. For instance, is it alright to use both "to believe in" and "to believe" interchangeably in the sentences below?

"I don't believe (in?) a god"

"I don't believe (in?) you"

Here, verb BELIEVE is intransitive.
Meaning of an intr. BELIEVE:To have firm faith, especially religious faith, to have confidence, or trust.
(Herein, it's opposite)

Here, verb BELIEVE is transitive.
Meaning of a tr. BELIEVE: To accept as true or real, to credit with veracity.
