"made of" "and made from" + reported speech
Dear colleagues,
I'm very happy to join your site and be a member of it.My questions are: 1.What is the difference in meaning between "made of" and "made from" eg
This chair is made of wood/ This chair is made from wood
I'm confused
2. In which cases does the past simple in direct speech remain past simple in reported speech ?( i.e instead of using past perfect). Please make it clear.
Thanks for your help
Re: "made of" "and made from" + reported speech
* make something of something: to construct it from (a material, etc).
-- The past simple (did/made/Knew etc) can usually sta the same in reported speech, or you can change it to the past perfect (Had done...,had known etc):
DIRECT: Angilika said:" I woke up feeling ill, so i didn't go to work."
REPORTED: Angilika said (that) she woke up feeling ill, so she didn't go...
Angilika said (that) she had woken up feeling ill, so she hadn't gone to work
