Hi,

Can someone please help me with this?

What is the difference between the following two sentences?

I went to the shop yesterday

and

I have been to the shop yesterday

Which is correct and why?

The second one is gram. incorrect.

"yesterday" denotes smth that happened in the past, a complete action. requires verbs in the past tense.

present perfect tense denotes an action which started in the past, but continues in the present. never to be used along with "yesterday".

Sorry, you can't say:"I have been to the shop yesterday." Your sentence with "yesyerday" is right, i.e I went to the shop yesterday. When you say "I have been to the shop" you don't mean the time of the action. It's the present perfect tense which shows that you have done something in the past but you don't state the time of the action.
