Whose cultural view point, yours or the author's?

I think you need to find some information about the author's culture. (for instance) knowing Wether or not the author is a Black southern American, would greatly influence your understanding of the poem.

I do know yet who is the author ,but i'm sure that this analysis must be through the cultural point of view in general, related to the human and social science.
