I've never heard that before either.
The only thing I can think of is "dog-ear(ed)".
dog-ear (dōg'īr', dŏg'-)
n.
A turned-down corner of a page in a book.

To turn down the corner of (the page of a book).
To make worn or shabby from overuse.
