Default more to the purpose

I am not sure about the exact meaning of:

================================================== ======

From: Pride and Prejudice

"_My_ overhearings were more to the purpose than _yours_, Eliza," said Charlotte.
===============================================
Thanks,
Mircea

I would guess at germaine, pertinent, of greater importance.

Was the character speaking talking to another person about something they had overheard ? If so, my guesses are correct.

Charlotte is saying that what she overheard (she doesn't say, but it may have been either about Mr D'Arcy's fortune or about the new tenant at Netherfield [and his interest in Jane])' was of greater importance than what Lizzie overheard (which only hurt her pride) - 'of greater importance', in the view of Miss Lucas, means 'to do with people actually getting married'
