Question o'clock

hI! I've always wondered if that O' in o'clock has a hidden meaning.
does anybody know something about it?

Yup...the olde English description of time was always like "it is 11 of the clock"....no one seems to know why people spoke in such a strange way though! They never said "it is 16 pounds of the scale" or "it is 21 of the month". perhaps it happened in the short time scale when clocks were first introduced.
