The cat and the dog
Here is a story between a cat and a dog. The cat was asked by the dog whether she stole the dog bones.
May I know the meanings of those underlined as follow:
- The cat said, "Why would I want dog bones? The very thought of it makes my fur stand on end."
- "Yikes!" said the cat.
Thanks.

Re: The cat and the dog
A cat when frightened/surprised can make itself seem larger by making its fur stand on end - this cat is saying the thought of a dog's bones has this effect on him/her
"Yikes" - merely an interjection of surprise - no known meaning, though it is suggested to have come from the hunting cry "yoicks"
