where to put the verb in indirect question

Hiya there,
I'm a bit concerned about one thing - is it all right if I use this sentence pattern:
Do you know what is the longest river in the world?
I'd like you to tell me what are your problems concerning this issue.
Or maybe, I should write in this way:
Do you know what the longest river in the world is?
I'd like you to tell me what your problems are concerning this issue.
The thing is that if the subject of the clause is quite long, the use of the verb somewhere at the end of the sentence looks and sounds awkward to me. Are there any rules to follow as for this matter?

Nice website, really. However, I can't say I found exactly what I wanted to. There were only a couple of sentences that explained the issue to me. The trouble was that the subjects used in the clauses were all short ones.
Here's what I found in the British Corpus:
Could you tell me what is the policy of your party on this matter?
There is a real question in the clause, and the verb form 'is' is not at the end of the sentence! Maybe, it's still possible to use the sentence pattern like the one above?

Oh, speaking of the BBC website - that's what I was concerned about. Now I know this is the most correct answer to my question.
All I want to know now is whether it is still possible to speak, or write, like in the sentence taken from the British Corpus included in my previous post?

My grammar book says what I said is correct is incorrect, still, millions seem to be unaware of that.
