can you say "I go to the shcool" and "i go to shopping."
i have always thought this was bad grammar but a esl teacher is telling me that in certain circumstances it's ok is this true?

I go to the school is okay, in the right context.
A: I see you take Bus 92 every day. That goes to the school and the mall. Where do you go?
B: I go to the school.
Also, I go to the school that is on the corner of Main and Adams.
I go to shopping doesn't seem correct in any context.
