My question is: is it fine to say " his very first tv appearance was on "Dancing on the moon". My main doubts are: 1. is it ok to say his very first? 2. is it ok to say "his appearance on"? Thanks a lot and, since it's friday night have a nice weekend

"Very first" is redundant, and generally shouldn't be used, but it can have its place. For example: Most people think his first TV appearance was on Dinah Shore, and in fact that was his first national appearance, but in fact, his very first TV appearance was on the locally syndiated "Good Morning Des Moines."

Barb_D, ''very first'' sounds pretty good to me (although it depends from a previous sentence, but nevertheless it can stand alone(it is not odd)). minnie2007, have a nice weekend too, all the best!

2)This depends on what 'Dancing on the Moon' is! He can appear on a show as a guest, or in a film/TV series. |

Thanks a lot. And what about if I want also to add the date? Is it fine to say: his very first tv appearance was on "Dancing on the moon on April 20th 1999". Is it fine to repeat on three times in a row (on Dancing on the moon; on April...)?

If you want to add a date, then :his very first tv appearance was on "Dancing on the Moon", broadcast/shown on April 20th 1999.
