1.which one is correct?? why??
2.gerund or participle??
formal: Mr. Jones complained about Mary'scoming to class late.
informal: Mr. Jones complained about Mary coming to class late.
3. formal: I appreciate your taking the time to talk with me. informal:I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me. Is this right??

Yes, that is correct. I wouldn't make too much of the formal/infomal thing, however. In this instance, there isn't much difference. :wink:
