| I'd rather say 'the box blew up' (the 'bang' is already implied) - this is a phrasal verb, no figure of speech |

| Synesthesia is the device of transfering imagery from one sense to another, e.g. "a loud color" or "delicious melody." But yes, if there was actual noise when the box burst into flames, then this is not a figure of speech. |
