Default "Make up for" or "Makes up for"

Hi! I was wondering if in the phrase "I hope that its beauty make up for the trouble", the phrasal verb "make up" should be "makes up". Thanks.

makes up for - mind the verb-noun agreement (it is the subject, noun singular)

I would have thought "beauty" was the subject.
