Hello Everyone,
![]()
In Chinese ,we often say, 自然环境与社会环境相互作用相互依存, which can be literally translated as "The natural enviroment and social enviroment is of mutual influnence and interdependence." I am wondering whether this translation is right. There is another translated version from the text book. That is "The relationship of natural enviroment and social enviroment is of mutual influnence and interdependence."
Of the two versions ,which one is correct or better? And Can you give me the reason?
Thanks and Best Regards

Hi there,
You misspelled influence and environment :)
My try: The natural and social environments are interdependent [and influential] of one another.
I think you can leave out the influence part, because interdependence implies influencing.
The relationship of natural enviroment and social enviroment is of mutual influnence and interdependence."
Both alternatives have problems and it would be better to rephrase completely. I would place "interdependence" before "influence":
The relationship between natural and social environments is one of mutual interdependence and influence.
No - because you have now lost "the relationship" to which "one" was related. You have also made the environments plural, which does not seem necessary. Here's another alternative phrasing for you:
The natural environment and social environment are mutually interdependent and influenced by each other.
