Inversion Help..
The original sentence is "The rain came down."
Can I use like these?
Came down the rain.
Down came the rain.
This is so confusing.

You can use 'Doun came the rain', but not the first.

Down came the rain.
This is so confusing.
1. Down came the rain. (OK)
2. The rain came down. (OK)
But not between constituents,
3. The down rain came. (Not OK. 'down' separates the noun phrase 'the rain'.)
4. The rain down came. (Not OK. 'down' modifies the subject+verb sequence so it can either go after or before 'The rain came' (as in 1. and 2.) but not between 'the rain' and 'came' as in 4.
