knock-knock jokes
I don't get the point of the game (of some of the jokes) too much; but it is a game meant for children, so it doesn't make much sense, maybe...
Knock-knock joke - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anyway, I can understand some of he "jokes" but some are not quite clear to me. Could you please explain the point of the following jokes?
Knock, knock!
Who's there?
Bob.
Bob who?
Bob Hope.
Knock, knock!
Who's there?
Euripides.
Euripides who?
Euripides pants and I won't make you another pair.
Knock, knock!
Who's there?
Amos.
Amos who?
A mosquito bit me.
As to the following knock-knock joke, would you really understand it without an explanation? It would probably never come to my mind that "Eskimo Christian Italian" is supposed to mean "Ask me no question, I'll tell you no lies.".
Knock, knock!
Who's there?
Eskimo Christian Italian.
Eskimo Christian Italian who?
Eskimo Christian Italian no lies.
(Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.)

Re: knock-knock jokes
I don't see what's funny about the Bob Hope one. The 'punchline' (which isn't one) doesn't follow the model suggested by the Wikipedia article:
The standard format has five lines:
1. The punster: Knock, knock! (indicating a door has been struck to gain attention)
2. The recipient: Who's there? (an inquiry)
3. The punster: a response, sometimes involving a name (to set up the pun)
4. The recipient: a repetition of the response plus who? (a request for clarification)
5. The punster: the punch line, which typically involves a punnish misusage of the word set up during the response.
I honestly have no problem with people doing what they like with my name. But that one just isn't what I'd call a joke. Of course, sometimes a joke follows a well-known pattern for jokes and then is intentionally unfunny; maybe that's what's happening...

Re: knock-knock jokes
Bob is correct, the Bob Hope one isn't a traditional knock-knock joke.
Here are a couple of classics that make use of the "who" sound in the set-up line:
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Boo.
Boo who?
Aw, don't cry!
Knock knock.
Who's there?
A little old lady.
A little old lady who?
I didn't know you could yodel!

Which is why it's (supposedly) funny.
Knock-knock.
Who's there?
Banana.
Banana, who?
Banana.
I don't get it.
OK. Let's try again.
Knock-knock.
Who's there?
Banana.
Banana, who?
Banana.
I still don't get it!
OK. One more time.
Knock-knock.
Who's there?
Orange.
Orange, who?
Orange you glad I didn't say banana? <orange = aren't>

Re: knock-knock jokes
Thank you all for your answers and the explanation
+ Casiopea, thank you for the link - I see that human (is it the right adjective here?) fantasy is "neverending"... I would never think out so many "jokes"

Re: knock-knock jokes
The Bob Hope non-joke joke reminds me of when my daughter was very small, maybe two years old, and wanted to be able to tell jokes like her big brother. She'd say, "Knock knock!" and we'd say, "Who's there?" Then she'd scream, "Alligator!" and collapse into gleeful laughter. Of course, we all laughed like it was the funniest thing we'd ever heard.

Re: knock-knock jokes
Yes, children are funny.
A niece of mine has a particular favourite:
Why are pirates called pirates?
Because they aaaAAAARRRRRR!
It helps if you are there at the time.

Re: knock-knock jokes
I don't understand it

I don't understand this kind of joke in general either.
I don't find it funny or is it that I don't just get it?
