sentence
is it "he hanged himself" or "he hung himself"

Re: sentence
"Hanged" is correct (as long as you are referring to execution).

Re: sentence
Both of them " hanged" and "hung" are correct but I think it depends whether it is American English or British English
thanks

Re: sentence
I guess Hanged is more than advisable in the sense of to execute as Bchosiej suggested it. Apart from this sense, both hanged and hung can be used either.

'hanged' is the correct term when it is referring to death by hanging. Hung is used when talking about hanging a picture - 'I hung a picture this morning'. Some people may use 'hung' when talking about execution, but they are wrong.
Longman Online
'kill/be killed past tense and past participle hanged [intransitive and transitive] to kill someone by dropping them with a rope around their neck, or to die in this way, especially as a punishment for a serious crime
be hanged for something'
A usage note from the American Heritage dictionary
'Usage Note: Hanged, as a past tense and a past participle of hang, is used in the sense of "to put to death by hanging," as in Frontier courts hanged many a prisoner after a summary trial. A majority of the Usage Panel objects to hung used in this sense. In all other senses of the word, hung is the preferred form as past tense and past participle, as in I hung my child's picture above my desk.'

Re: sentence
Additionally,
[1] He hanged himself. <He killed himself.>
[2] He hung himself. <He suspended himself. He didn't die.>
suspend (verb) To hang so as to allow free movement: suspended the mobile from the ceiling.
All the best
