Present Perfect Progressive
Dear friends, will anyone help me? What should the correct following sentence be in the example below? Or is it possible to use more of them? (I'd use the first personally in both the cases.) What would the difference in meaning be? Thanks for patience and time.
Example 1:
Look, the streets are wet. - It has been raining. / It has rained. / It was raining. / It rained.
Example 2:
Why are your hands dirty? - I have been repairing my bike. / I am repairing my bike. / I have repaired my bike. I was repairing my bike. / I repaired my bike.

Hi there.
In my opinion, in both cases I'd use the Present Perfect Continuous - the actions that took place a very short time ago are normally described by that tense - you focus on the action itself, not on the result of the action:
Look, the streets are wet. - It has been raining.
Why are your hands dirty? - I have been repairing my bike.

Re: Present Perfect Progressive
Hi there
,
I'm not a native nor teacher
In the first example though, I would say both of the following can be used:
-It has been raining.
-It has rained.
Please correct me though if I'm wrong.
cheers

Hi there
,
By the way, could a native speaker possibly tell me if I have used "though" correctly in my response?
Cheers

Please, could a native add in his / her advice? Thanks

1. It has been raining.
2.I have repaired my bike.

Re: Present Perfect Progressive
In both examples, there is evidence now of a recent activity, so we would tend to use the progressive form rather than the simple.
