Correct or Wrong??

According to my Co-worker she said that this sentence is ABSOLUTELY WRONG!!

1. The student speaks ITS mind deliberately and loves to talk most of the time.

Why?. . . according to my co0worker that the possessive "ITS" is not appropriate to use un this sentence.

Also,

2. The student was asked to comply with the given statements thrown to her in
relation our topic today.


Why?. . . . according to my co-worker the preposition "TO" should replaced by "AT" in this sentence.

So,, does my co-worker tells the right grammar when we talk about "WORD FUNCTION"???

My two cents:

use "their” as sexless singular pronoun, when you don't know whether it's a he or a she.

So does it mean that I'd better use "their" as a pronoun in this sentence?... I just read about the pronoun "Its" whereas, it says that we use "its" to represent a PERSON or animal understood, previously mentioned, or about to be mentioned whose gender is unknown or disregarded .

/Example: He horse had its saddle on (Dictionary.com)
A child proud of its first drawings (from Merriam dictionary)


So what about the function of "ITS" in these sentences?

Please explain thank a lot!!

It's "The" in my first example. The horse had its saddle. huh!
