What does the word 'run' in "12-3 run" mean?

Thank you very much for your reply.
By the way, and here's my question, what does "12-3" mean

I'm not a basketball fan, so we'll have to wait for Mike or someone to help.

A 12-3 run occurs when a team scores 12 points to the other team's 3. There is nothing magical about the numbers themselves, but that is what occurred in that game.

Duke was leading UConn 76-67 toward the end of the game and it looked as if Duke was sure to win. In the next minutes, UConn scored 12 points and Duke managed only 3.
