Default to infinitive and gerund

Hello Teachers,

what is the difference in meaning between the two sentences:

1) I wish you'd stop talk to me.
2) I wish you'd stop talking tome.

and between:

1) I tried to push the car.
2) I tried pushing the car.

1) I wish you'd stop talk to me. Incorrect- I think you might mean 'to talk', which means that you would like the other person to stop something in order to talk to you.

2) I wish you'd stop talking to me. - You don't want the person to talk to you any more.


1) I tried to push the car. - You wanted to push the care, but were not able to get it to move.

2) I tried pushing the car. - You pushed the car, but didn't achieve what you wanted.
