Rule.. Is there any rules about the position of the adverb "AFTERWARD(S)" in a sentence?
Is wrong to write, "I greeted him afterwards, we had talked about his pet"???????
Please explain....

Re: Rule.. That's OK, as long as the previous sentence tells us about the event that 'afterwards' referes to.

!But the word afterwards has a place in a sentence which cannot be changed!
- After cannot be used alone as a linking word to join one thing that happens with another thing that happens after that. Instead, use (and) then, (and) afterwards, or (and after that:
- EXAMPLE: We went to a party and afterwards we went to a club!
