Hi, I am taking a test which called TASP on Friday(5/14) and it invlolves writing and sentence skills. So I was wondering if you guys could help me on puctuations issue. Here is my question.
When do I place a ", (comma)" before the word "and" and "or" and when do I do not need to.
Sorry if I confused you guys...
In a list the comma before 'and' is optional. At other times, I put one in if the part of the sentnce beginning with 'and'/'or' seems less important than the rest. If the two are of equal importance I don't use a comma. It's often a matter of taste.![]()
so it doesn't really matter if you put one or not?
There is really no general agreement on the subject, but some individuals have strong opinions. I prefer to use the comma before the coordinating conjunction in a series. There are times when leaving it out causes confusion. There are many who disagree with me, however. :wink:Originally Posted by Chizu
