Default rice

There are two kinds of rice we have here, the one is the plain white rice and the other is the sticky one, What do you call the latter?

So many rice questions, Blouen. In America at least, sticky rice is only known by people who know a lot about Asian foods. They call it sticky rice, too. As far as I know it hasn't got another name.

And in answer to your other question, we don't have a special pot for cooking rice. I believe you can buy those electric rice cookers here, but they're not a must-have item for the American kitchen by any means (except in Hawaii!) I think if a fancy cooking store were to begin selling calderas, they would probably call them calderas. I've seen various ethnic cooking utensils marketed by their foreign names---the Moroccan tagine springs to mind. And maybe a wok, although I have no idea if that's what the Chinese really call it :)

I thought glutinous rice was what you made mochi out of and that sticky rice was something different, but according to Wikipedia it's all the same thing.

Mochi. Mmmmm.

DO you have rice cakes in the West? Or say cakes from cereals, wheat or something?
