Explaining Wales music
Hi All,
I am writing a paragraph on Wales music and not sure whether I am giving a correct impression in my sentences. The following are a few sentences from the para. I am doubtful about the red sections. Could you please comment on these sentnences?
1. Country of Wales has four main types of folk music. The first one is the ballad, a set-song group that covers a wide variety of songs on subjects ranging from work, humour, tricks and feats to Christmas carols and current issues.
2. The second one is vocal and instrumental music such as penillion singing (penillion means 'verses' in the Welsh). This music consists of singing and playing a harp. The singer and harpist act independently.
3. Penillion singing competitions are held often, and have the basic rules that the singer and harpist should never play the same note but should finish at the same time.
Thanks,
MG.

Re: Explaining Wales music
That looks OK, except say:
The country of Wales
And:
in Welsh

Re: Explaining Wales music
RonBee,
Thanks. I am surprised, that I could write those sentnences flawlessly.
In sentence 2, I am trying to convey that the penillion singing is composed of singing and playing harp; and that singer and harpist, purposely do not coordinate their acts.
In sentence 3, I want to say that the competitions are held regularly and they have some unique rules.
Do these sentences convey the intended meanings?
Thanks once again,
MG.

Yes.
(Say Welsh music or music from Wales.)
