There does seem to be something of a pattern. If the name of the country ends in
a it tends to get an
n ending: America--American, Australia--Australian, Austria--Austrian, India--Indian, Jamaica--Jamaican, Saudi Arabia--Saudi Arabian. On the other hand, there's
China. :(
Here are a few nationalities ending in
ese: Chinese, Japanese, Burmese, Nepalese, Portuguese, Senegalese.
(Say: "so they can be more easily remembered")
