Default Punctuating Adjective Clauses

Dear teachers,

(a) The teacher pointed to the maps that were hanging on the rear wall of the classroom.
(b) The teacher pointed to the maps, which were hanging on the rear wall of the classroom.

My comprehension of (a) are
(1) No commas are used;
(2) Adj Clause is to identify the maps
My comprehension of (b) are
(1) Commas are used;
(2) Adj Clause simply gives additional information about the location of the maps.

I don't see any differences that may contrast the meaning in the pairs. Would you pls help me with this? Thank you.

in b) there were only maps on the rear wall- in a) there were maps on other walls or elsewhere, so we needs to know which maps. The term used in BE for these clauses is 'relative'.
