My name is Veer, i come from India, my Problem is- whenever i tend to speak in English with my friends and country people, i speak to them in RP accent which somewhat sounds like UK accent to the people of my country. My problem here is- my country people tend to make fool out of me when i speak in RP accent, so i really feel embarrassed when they laugh at me..... I am in need of intense help from you seniors... please let me know what do i do....... and how do i work on this problem or shall i stick to the same accent...? Yours Affectionately, Veeranjay Pawar

I'd stick with it; you'll be understood everywhere with such an accent, while they may have trouble making themselves understood outside your region. There are many websites for Indian speakers trying to reduce their accent for professional reasons- they're paying out for what you have.

well thanks Tdol, but i am still confused, i dont know whether the problem is in me or with the community. i think that there is only one way to solve it----- I have recorded my introduction in RP accent which is in MP3 format. so will you give me your email id so that i can send it to you. you analyse my RP accent from that file and let me know that whether i am going on the right track or there is any problem with my accent, ok I need your email id so that i can send the audio file on your email. Thank you,

Yes, stick with your accent. People making fun of you are no better than those whom mock others for more acute reasons.
