Smile Don't mention it!!!!

Hi
When I watch US films ,some actors say"don't mention it" when the other says "thank you"
I know "you are welcome".
Could you please give me a specefic context inwhich we use "don't mention it"
or it is interchangeable with "you're welcome"?
Thanks in advance

Default Re: Don't mention it!!!!

There are many ways to acknowledge thanks.

Here are a few:
You're welcome
Don't mention it
No problem (I don't like this one)
Speak nothing of it
It was no trouble/nothing
Happy to have helped
My pleasure

It's more informal.
To me, it's also not very gracious.

If you want an alternative to "You're welcome," try "my pleasure." It's short for "it was my pleasure to have helped you."
