Default meaning

Dear Teacher,
I cannot understand two sentences follwings
The bold words are words I do not understand. Coud you write them another way. thanks.

1-The sense of separateness makes us react instead of act. Only when there is love, which is not a reaction to something that attracts us, does the universal life express itself through us. Love 'renders lovable all on whom it may happen to fall'.
2- Every act aiming at perfection releases pure life and is therefore a liberation, however small.

1 means all those who fall in love become to have such nature as to attract love.
2. however small (liberation it is)

Regarding no 2 - however small, I think, could also refer to the "act aiming at perfection": however small the act itself is, it still gives you a feeling of liberation.
