I have read the following sentence, but
I do not understand it.
"should the latch key kid stay at home alone?"
what does "the latch key kid" mean?

A 'latch key child' is one that is given a house key by its parents or guardians and is allowed to be at home without supervision. Such an unfortunate situation sometimes arises with young children whose parents both work.
